Have You Tried The Wendy's Pick 2 Meal For $4.99 Yet? (Plus A GIVEAWAY!!)

Last week, I had the huge honor of being invited to a mommy blogger event hosted by Wendy's and TheMotherhood. Even cooler than that, I got to invite 2 friends, so I asked my mom and hubby to join me. Kids were welcome to tag along, so my son got to join us as well!

So, our mission was to try to order from the new Wendy's Pick 2 campaign. With the Pick 2 (for $4.99!!!!!) menu option, first you pick your favorite, out of 4, Wendy's salads; in a half size. You can choose from:

Spicy Chicken Caesar Salad, Baja Salad, Apple Pecan Chicken Salad, and the BLT Cobb Salad.

Next you add your choice of one, out of 7 smaller sides. A fountain drink, Dasani water, a baked potato, Wendy's Bowl of Chili, a Frosty, a Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger or a Chicken Go Wrap. Did I mention this was for $4.99!!!

I had a tough time deciding between the Spicy Chicken Caesar Salad and the Apple Pecan Chicken Salad, but the Caesar won. I paired it with a Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger (I couldn't resist!!) and also ordered a Coke. Wow, what a wonderful and very filling lunch! The salad and drink alone would have been enough, the 1/2 size salad portion is still very generous and very filling alone.

What I love about the Spicy Chicken Caesar Salad is: it's not "too" hot and spicy, the dressing amount portion was very appropriate, keeping those calories down! I tend to use way too much dressing if I don't measure it. Plus, I can't say enough about the huge 1" x .5" chunks of shaved Asiago cheese. Yes, it's true...I love cheese! My Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger was perfect, as always...

Hubby said the Baja Salad was perfect and my mom (who also tried the Spicy Chicken Caesar and loved it) raved about her bowl of Chili. For "fast food" chili, she was very impressed. This is from a women who makes homemade chili quite often. :)

Overall, we had a great time. Did I mention the Pick 2 is only $4.99?? Dine-in taste and quality, for fast food price and convenience (you know, after that late soccer game...) What a deal!! My little man enjoyed a Wendy's Kids Meal while we waited to order our Pick 2 Lunch, isn't he cute chewing away?
The staff was awesome dealing with our large group of moms, friends and kids. Not to mention the manager on duty was terrific. I was impressed that he was "working" the dining room, doing table visits, checking on food taste and quality, etc. That's always a nice thing to see in a fast food establishment. Plus, for me getting to see other bloggers face to face was really fun. It was a happy day!!

Now, here's the fun part for you!! Would you like to try your own Wendy's Pick 2 lunch or dinner? Well, I'm giving away one $7 Gift Card to Wendy's! Here's how to win:

1. Visit Wendy's.com and look at the Pick 2 selections. With 28 possible combinations for only $4.99, I know you'll find the perfect one for you. Now, leave me a comment and tell what combination you'd like to try.

2. Stalk me (I mean stay connected) on Facebook and/or Twitter. Also, be sure to stay connected with TheMotherhood and Wendy's on Facebook and Twitter.

3. Post this giveaway on your blog!

4. Tweet this giveaway, be sure to use the hash tag "#WendysPick2". (This entry can only be ONCE per day.)

One lucky winner will be drawn at random on Sunday, October 31st at 10pm (central time.) Good luck!!!

Disclaimer - Although all the options expressed in this post are 100% my own, I was working with Wendy's and TheMotherhood on this campaign. I also received my lunch, the lunch for my friends (not my son), a gift card for the giveaway and a stipend.

**Update** - I headed over to Random.com and #3 was selected as my winner!!! That would be Jessica at The Unemployed Mom!!!! Congrats!!!!

Sorry for my lack of blogging this week! Maybe a free bagel with schmear (cream cheese) will make it up to you. All you need to do is head to Einstein Bros Bagels' page on Facebook and click the "free bagel" tab. You'll need to become a fan to print the coupon.

Free Bagel & Schmear from Einstein Bros Bagels

The coupon expires January 18th, so be sure to head in soon. I printed my coupon yesterday morning and happened to pass Einstein Bros Bagels on my way home from the doctor (sans kids). Happy Meal Toy Plus eBay Equals FREE Lunch & Entertainment

When trying to save money, you need to think outside of the box and keep things fun! Check out how I take my kids to McDonald's for a free lunch and indoor playground time. First, I'll cost it out and then explain my crazy self. :)

$3.99 Chicken Nugget Happy Meal (price varies per market and Happy Meal type/size)
$1.75 Shipping
$0.50 PayPal fee
$0.09 eBay Listing fee ($.03/mo for a 3 mo. average)
$0.60 eBay Final Value fee

Total "cost" = $6.93

$4.97 Amount collect for a (new in package) McDonald's Happy Meal Toy on eBay
$2.00 Shipping & Handling fees collected

Gross profit = $6.97

Net profit = $.04 (woot woot, haha!!)

So what I do is, I head to McDonald's now and then and "treat" the kids to lunch. Depending on how cool the kids think the current Happy Meal campaign is, I might let them keep one toy per campaign and I sell the rest. For example, Star Wars, Matchbox cars, Barbi and My Little Pony are keepers. Any trips after that, I keep the toys to sell. Who needs that many tiny toys anyway?

I keep them new in the plastic and sell them on eBay. Who buys these McDonald's toys? I've seen adult collectors purchase them and moms who had a little one lose their favorite one. As far as eBay is concerned, you just never know what people sre searching for! I also recently sold 19 Happy Meal toys to someone in Japan, that was about $95 in cash deposit into my PayPal. Not to mention he bought a few outfits from my store as as well. I could, think of them as profit making ($.04) advertising. :)

My point is, find little things you can do but keep it fun. I'd say it takes me about 10 minutes to sell each toy. That's from start (taking pictures & listing) to finish (pulling from storage & shipping). I don't list them until I have 5 or 6 to list, and use "list similar" to make listing faster. So 10 minutes of my time in invested for each $4 Happy Meal I buy. That's $24 an hour, but when I add in my Wylie Mom math, I'd need to earn $32 an hour outside of the home to have the same lunch experience. I personally find that reading a book while the kids play at McDonald's for a treat, and then spending a few minutes on the computer is a great use of my time.

McDonald's indoor playgrounds are a great idea for running off energy on rainy days or on days when you're running lots of errands. Please be sure to wash up or sanitize before and after play time!!

Figure what your time is worth and combine it with what you enjoy doing, to save or make money. Obviously, I can't make a living or survive with this plan, but it combined with all the other little things I do make a huge impact. You've just got to think outside of the box!

I'd love to hear some of your ideas!
