Giving Rebates Some Thought!

Since I sent off 3 rebates this week, I have been giving them some thought. Trying a product for free is always awesome, but unlike samples, rebates can be a lot more fun. When a rebate is active, there are usually coupons out there too, meaning you have a chance to make a $1 or $2 profit. To maximize your profits, purchase rebate items with catalinas or Extra Care Bucks, etc. That way you're paying with "free" money from another deal in the past, and you're getting a cashable check back. Sometime, you can even double your money.

Let's say there is a sale at CVS, if you buy shampoo for $7, you get $5 back in ECB. You also have a $3 coupon and a mfg. rebate. You'd pay $4 cash out of pocket (if you have no previous ECB...as if!), get $5 in ECB back plus $7 back from the mfg. rebate. So, pay $4 or less and get $12 back. These kinds of rebate deals are my favorites, for obvious reasons! :)

On Monday I mailed off three rebates: $3.99 for a Goody headband (made $1 profit), $7.19 for Tyson Skillet meal (made $1 profit) and a $20 rebate from Oil of Olay. That's $31.18 coming back to me. Check out my Olay rebate story here.

Last but not least, I just recently found the coolest rebate website. I wonder where I have been? Anyway, it's called Rebate Tracker. You can search for rebates, track your rebates, chat about rebates (that's a little too far for me), etc.

Want to make rebates more fun? I've thought about starting a "rebate" checking or savings account. You would use the account for only your rebate checks, but save the money for something special to keep you motivated. Like for Christmas, a trip to Disney World, a new purse, whatever gets you going! Have any rebate success stories? Tell me! Questions? Ask me!

Have a great night!! And, be sure to check out Wylie Mom on Facebook. :)

Yay!!! The summer day I've been waiting for, for over a year, is almost here.

Yes, Surveys Can Be Worth Your Time!

This morning I thought I'd give my favorite survey sites a check. I don't log in as near as much as I'd like to, and was very pleased (and surprised!) to see a "cashable" balance at 3 of them. I have $47.10 on the way to me. Not too bad, huh?

There are a lot of survey sites out there to choose from. Since everyone is differnet, there's no telling which ones you'll prefer. I suggest signing up for a few at a time. Try them out for a few days/weeks, and drop the ones you don't like. Maybe add another, if you find the time. Also, I would suggest maintaining a new and seperate e-mail address just for your surveys.

Here are some things I look for in surveys (and survey sites) :

1. How many surveys do they e-mail a day? I'd like to see 1 to 4 surveys a day, depenidng on quailty.

2. How long does the survey take? It's a survey of my opinion, not a college entrance exam! You'll have to pay me pretty well to care for more than 20 minutes.

3. How much does it pay? Some places pay in cash and others in points. Points are fine, as long as they can be exchanged for cash. Time is money! Is your time worth $.50 for 20 minutes? No. Is your time worht $5 for 15 minutes? Yes.

Don't forget about the product trials!! Since I started the survey scene about a year ago, I have gotten to try and keep: Samsung Glyde phone, 5 cologne samples, sunscreen, cake mix w/ frosting, another dessert mix, shampoo, plus more. That's in addition to the few $$ they paid for my opinion as well. :)

Here are my favorite survey sites:

SurveySpot - 1 to 6 e-mails a day, but has a fair amout of $2-5 surveys and has awesome random product trials! Pays out via check and will be moving to PayPal next month which will be great. I requested a $7 check this morning. :)

Synovate Gobal Opinion Panels - 2 to 6 surveys a week and pays in points (1000 points = $1). Most surveys pay low for just a few minutes, but there will be one "awesome" survey that comes along every few weeks. Frequent product trials!! I cashed out a $10 check this morning, but had to leave a small balance. Requests can only be made in increments of $5.

InboxDollars - Today was my first time to cash out since you need $30 to request a check! I had to pay a $3 check processing fee which I then earned right back (for next time). I usually just read the e-mails and do the cash offers with this one, and I requested $30.10 today (that's after the $3 fee, haha). All offers pay out cash (no points), and you can earn for online shopping as well.

MyPoints - A lot like InboxDollars, but I don't do the surveys here. At MyPoints, you earn points reading e-mails, shopping and doing surveys (surveys pay low). I just answer the e-mails and earn points for filling out my Bzzz reports for BzzAgent. BzzAgent sends you new products to try and spread the "bzzz" about. You're rewarded with points at MyPoints. It's a win-win as far as my MyPoints account.

Have a great survey site that I didn't mention? Just leave a comment to this post. Thanks!

I Got It For FREE At CVS!

After finding no school supplies last week during the Sunday/Monday/Tuesday sale at CVS, I wasn't even going to stop in this week. But, I changed my mind (after my sister-in-law had a great trip). I'm so glad I did!!!

I knew the trip was going to be good when I walked in, scanned the magic coupon machine and out spit a $1.50 coupon for the Mennen Speed Stick Pro that's on sale this week ($2.99 with $2 ECB back).

2 packs of paper $4.00
2 packs of pens $1.98
2 "Handy Dandy" notebooks $1.98
Speed Stick Pro $2.99
Snickers Bar (so I didn't lose $.50 in ECB!!)

minus

$1.50 CVS/Speed Stick coupon from "Magic Price Check Machine"
$10.00 in ECB from my CVS trip last week

Total cash OOP $.34, got back $9.96 in ECB and saved $15.88.

I lost $.04 in ECB and spent $.34 in cash so I "spent" $.38 overall. I could have not gotten the Snicker's and paid zero cash OOP, but would have lost $.50 in ECB when I paid. We can't have that happen! I'd rather enjoy some chocolate.

Have a great afternoon!! :)

Finishing Off The Olay Rebate At Walgreens

This is my 600th post!! Yay!!

Yesterday, I ran into Walgreens to use the $5 off of $25 coupon on more Oil of Olay. I needed to spend at least another $28.03 after doing the Olay deal at CVS this week. You need to spend $50 for the rebate.

I splurged on something fun!

Olay Regenerist filling + sealing wrinkle treatment $21.99
Olay Regenerist Daily Cleanser $7.29
Payday bar (I ate it!) $.50 (I needed 3 items since I had 3 coupons)

minus

$5/$25 Wags coupon (expired yesterday)
(2) $1.00 off Olay cleanser or lotion coupons from P&G

Total cash OOP = $24.87.

In a separate transaction, so I'd have a separate receipt, I purchased the Goody Ouchless headband for $3.99 minus the $1.00 printable coupon from my coupon bar, and I paid $3.24 cash OOP. But, I will get $3.99 back from the rebate that spit out of the catalina machine, so a $.75 cent profit on the headband. $8.40 was saved at Walgreens overall.

On the Olay, $24.87 plus the $6.46 I spent on Olay at CVS is $31.33 cash OOP for $50 of Olay. Now, I'm submitting the $20 Olay Rebate, so I'm down to $11.33 or $10.58 if you count the headband profit. I'm sure if I waited for an Olay deal at Walgreens, I could have done better, but I'm happy! :)

My CVS Trip On July 15th

This week I had $5 in Extra Care Bucks burning a hole in my pocket as well as the $10 in ECB I made from the CVS panel I'm on. I decided to do the Olay deal (spend $20, get $10 ECB), because I'm also going to do the $20 Olay Rebate from Olay.com. I noticed the rebate while clipping my coupons. :)

My sister-in-law and I hit a CVS on Sunday to find NO school supplies that were free (with ECB), so I gave up there on those. I'm not that desperate! Here's what I did find:

Transaction #1

Night of Olay $6.99
Olay Complete Lotion $6.99
Olay Total Effects Cleanser $7.99
Gain Detergent $5.99

minus

$1.00 off Gain coupon from P&G book (no longer available)
(3) $1.00 Olay cleanser or lotion P&G newspaper coupons
$5.00 ECB from 2 week ago
$10.00 ECB earned from panel

Total cash OOP = 9.70 and I got back $12.00 in ECB ($2.00 Gain and $10 Olay)

Transaction #2

Electrasol Power Tabs $3.99
Poweraide $1.25
2 CVS nuts $1.98
Gummy Worms $.99

minus

$2.00/2 CVS nuts coupon (from magic machine when I walked in)
Free Poweraide coupon from My Coke Rewards (she took off $1.69 instead of the $1.25 sale price paid)
$2.50 Electrasol coupon from last Sunday's paper
$2.00 in ECB (price adjusted to $1.90) from transaction #1

Total cash OOP = $.13

Overall, I spent $9.83 cash out of pocket (OOP) and saved $24.93. I'm counting the $10 ECB from the panel as "income" as far as my tracking. I also still have $10 in Extra Care Bucks from the Olay deal for next week.

More on the Olay rebate soon....

The 10 Item Mega Event At Kroger - July 16th

Thursday is my favorite day to grocery shop. I like it because the new ad came out yesterday, and I've had plenty of time to clip and organize my coupons from Sunday. Plus, it's still mid-week and not very crowded. This week at Kroger there is a 10 item Mega Event, purchase 10 participating items and get $5 off. I did this twice, and yes, you can mix and match items. Pictured is what I got at Kroger this morning.

Highlights from the trip:

Listerine 500ml $2.99 - $.50 Mega Savings - $.50 newspaper coupon doubled = $1.49 each. Or use the $1.00 Listerine printable coupon from my Coupons.Com coupon bar of the left.

Ritz $2.75 & I got the Wheat Thins for FREE ($2.99) with newspaper coupon.

Kleenex $1.49 - $.50 Mega Savings - $.50/2 newspaper coupon from last Sunday doubled = $.49 each. Great for back to school!

Tyson Skillet Creations $7.19 - $1.00 Tyson Skillet Creations printable coupon = $6.19 (but don't forget about the rebate, $1.00 profit overall).

Strawberries $2.97 for 2 pounds

Kraft Cheese (select 8 oz.) $1.49 each after Mega Savings

Daisy Sour Cream 16 oz. $1.99 - $.50 Mega Savings - $.50 newspaper coupon doubled = $.49 each

I saved $48.08 and spent $38.33 cash OOP. After the $7.19 I'll get back for the Tyson's rebate, my trip total was $31.14. Yay!

Oh.....I also got a FREE Snickers Bar with my Mars Free Chocolate on Friday coupon. It was hiding in my purse. :)

$5 off of $25 At Walgreens Today and Tomorrow

It's sure has been a while, but there's a new $5/$25 Walgreens coupon!! It's good online or in store today and Friday, so hurry if you "need" anything.

Just click here to visit Walgreens and print your coupon.

Pretty awesome prizes, huh? Don't forget Story Time is today. :)

I'm a married, stay-at-home mom to two kiddos in grade school. I love to save money as much as I like to make it! Coupons, thrift stores? Lead the way! But wait....there's more! I have a BBA from University of Oklahoma and I was a banker and an accountant before I became a domestic goddess!
