My Goals For 2009

I've been a SAHM now for almost a year and have been blogging for about 9 months. What fun the blogging has been! I've been thinking for a few weeks about where I'd like my blog to go. I've also had a bit of inspiration from Carrie over at Money Saving Methods and have decided to add a weekly "money saving/making" review. I'll begin, next week, on Sunday since this week is short.

Once I got into the groove of staying home and saving so much money, I've been really curious about the true financial impact it's been having on our family. I think better tracking on my part and sharing the results with you will be beneficial to us both.

I've had another inspiration for this as well. The last year I've been home, I've been thinking about where all my money went when I was working. Now, I'm not talking about convenience items like meals out and buying full price things at Target. I have just been thinking about work in general. Let's say I make $40K a year. About $5-6K goes to taxes (SS, Fed Withholding, etc.) right off the bat. Then we'll say another $2-3K for gas just to get there and clothes just to stand there properly clothed. So, lets make this really easy and say that the average worker only sees about 75% of what they make. So, I made $40K, but only saw about $30K that was "mine" to spend. So here's my new thought......every time I save $10 at CVS, I would have needed to earn $13.33 outside of the home to "cover" that. Make sense???? The savings are more than you think!!

Of course, my other main goal this year is to continue growing my eBay store. It has been a blessing this holiday season. With the holidays and traveling, I haven't listed in almost 2 months but have still seen sales of about $250/mo from the store items for the past 2 months! That's even with the store closed for over 2 weeks while I was in Mexico and Florida. Yay, eBay!!!

What are your goals for 2009?

Wow, Angie, I never thought about looking at the savings that way! Look forward to seeing what you will be doing with this.

Glad you liked that! :) Not to mention when you work you also pay for: lunches out, office pools (baby showers, etc), dinner out because you're too tired to cook, child care, etc, etc, etc.

Also, my $$ figure for gas would be double that if I did these figures 4 months ago!! :)
